That is why we only offer the most advanced, top-of-the-line technology, and we take great care in every treatment plan that we create. 3D scanning is an important step in how we plan many of our patients’ care. Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) allows us to develop accurate, high-definition, and three-dimensional images of your teeth, jaw bone, soft tissues, and nerve paths better than anything that can be interpreted from a traditional x-ray. Not only does the data provided by a CBCT give us better information to avoid unnecessary surgeries and eliminates surprises, but it also emits the lowest level of radiation compared to a conventional CT, easing our patients’ concerns about too much exposure.
With a CBCT machine, an X-ray cone-shaped beam circles the patient, taking 150 to 200 images from different vantage points. The quality of the images is fantastic. These images are then reconstructed to create a single 3D image. The scanning is painless and noninvasive. In addition, since the CBCT is very focused, there is significantly less radiation exposure. This a very common concern for many of our patients.
3D scanning can be used to plan for a variety of treatments, depending on a patient’s unique needs. For example, we use digital virtual planning to evaluate your wisdom teeth and determine their exact position so as to minimize risk during removal. If you come to us for a dental implant, we will also use a scan to discover the perfect placement, so you get optimal results the first time. During your consultation at our practice, we will perform a CBCT scan and discuss your options with you.
